Dark and Stormy Workshop

This week for Wedding Wednesday we are featuring the dark and stormy workshop we had the pleasure of working on with Christie Graham.

The workshop was originally named Dark and Earthy. However, the weather on this day took a stormy turn for the better to make this editorial shoot a true west coast vision. From the crisp white and green florals by Botany and Co. to the unique and elegant bridal gown from Union Bridal this shoot gave us some serious shivers!

The Makeup Look:

Dark and Stormy Workshop

This look was so much fun to create on Brianna. She’s already such a stunner to begin with!

First I used an illuminating primer to even out the skin texture which gives a nice radiant glow. Next, I used my favourite foundation to help tone down any redness creating a flawless finish. I wanted to give Brianna a soft contour around her cheek bones, neck area and jawline. I used a bronzer to define those areas which also warmed up the skin perfectly.

To ensure a dark and smooth smokey eye the first step is eye primer!! This helps the eyeshadow hold and also creates more of a “bold” pigment once you apply to the eye. Next, I used a charcoal colour all over the lid and softly blended into the crease. After applying black liner (gel liner of course) I used a black powder eye shadow to create a smokier effect on the top and bottom of the eye. I finished off by lining the water line with the gel liner and applying individual lashes giving that full, fluffy lash effect.

Since our focus was a bold smokey eye, I used a soft pink cheek colour and a nude beige lip to compliment Brianna’s skin tone.

Christie’s vision to step out of the typical wedding imagery to a moodier aesthetic with a sense of wildness was translated beautifully. Make sure to check out Christie Graham’s Blog as well to see the amazing vendor team!
