5 steps to remove makeup

I couldn’t be more excited about this tutorial, taking it back to beauty basic: 5 steps to remove makeup properly!

There’s a lot more that goes into washing your face then just a simple cleanse and towel dry.  We’ve all been there before and failed to remove our makeup before bed!

In the beauty world, removing your makeup is the ONE STEP you can’t skip in your routine, struggle through it even if you are too tired!  This is when the skin does some serious work and repairs itself. The 5 steps to remove makeup will help prevent clogged pores and especially the main concerns a lot of us have with anti aging (dark circles and puffiness)!

 5 steps to remove makeup

Step 1. Eye Makeup – Oil Based Remover

If you have a few coats of mascara on, I’d suggest removing your mascara first with a cotton pad and an oil based makeup remover. This is the best way for getting all the product off your lashes and the MOST gentle way of doing so around the eye area. My favourite oil based remover is Bobbi Brown or YSL remover.

Directions: Start with holding the cotton pad on your eyes then gently moving to the root of the lashes and following to the ends of your lashes. I’ve watched many clients and friends remove their makeup and it urges me how people can tug and be so aggressive around their eye area.  This skin is very thin and you need to be light handed while removing your eye makeup, never rub your eyes!!

Step 2.  Cleanser #1 – Oil Cleanser

Using an oil based cleanser will breakdown the makeup products and excess dirt from the air. This fresh cleanser is a great way to leave the skin feeling soft and radiant, it will even remove waterproof makeup as well!

Directions: Using your fingers apply 2 full pumps of cleansing oil to your skin and start massaging it in a circular motion covering all areas including the eyes. After about a minute add water and start massaging in and rinse off. This will remove all eye makeup without irritating the delicate skin we have around our eyes.

Step 3. Cleanse #2 – Foaming Cleanser

Now that all the topical makeup and impurities are removed, grab a foaming cleanser for more invigorating cleanse. My favourite one at the moment is the “Zo Skin Health” or Clarins to really clean out my pores.

Directions: Dampen your face with lukewarm water and start massaging in a nickel size amount all over your face avoiding the eye area. After about 40 to 60 seconds start to massage in and then fully rinse off with lukewarm water.

Step 4. Tone

The skin is now all ready for your favourite alcohol free toner! This will balance the PH of your skin and tighten up the pores. I’m loving the Pore Treatment pads form Zo or the Nars Hydrating Toner

Step 5. Moisturize

The last and final step is to apply a moisturizer to hydrate your skin. My go to favourite is the Bobbi Brown hydrating cream along with the bobbi brown hydrating eye cream.
