Eyeliner is one of the best ways to open up the eyes and define the lash line. Here are our expert tips and tricks for mastering eyeliner step by step!
Pencil Eyeliner
A pencil eyeliner is the most commonly used and gives you a soft or smudgy finish. We love a twist up pencil like the Stila Smudgestick Waterproof Eyeliner because you don’t need to worry about sharpening!
Helpful Tips:
When applying – it’s always good to make sections of the eye. Try holding the eyeliner on its side and start by drawing the line from the middle of your eye to the outer corner. Next, from the inner corner to the middle.
In case you want to soften the look use a smudge brush and blend the line out. Keep the line thicker on the outer edge and gradually get thinner towards the inner corner of the eye.
If you choose to line your lower lashes we recommend smudging the liner to have it look like your lash line is thicker. More natural and soft is best, remember less is more! You can always add more if you don’t have enough on. Enhance your eye colour with a contrasting green, purple or navy liner.
Gel Eyeliner
This gives the most dramatic effect and gives you the option of more graphic line. A great option for creating a winged liner. For this liner option we like to use an eyeliner brush with the Stila Smudgepot.
Helpful Tips:
A little bit goes along way with this product. Wipe off excess product from your brush inside the lid. Start by dragging the pointed tip of the brush along the lash line. Take a step back to see if you want it thicker anywhere, typically you want the line to go from thin thick. Use a dark eye shadow smudged along the line with an angled brush to diffuse any gaps or uneven edges.
Since this formula dries and sets making it budge proof, remember to close the lid tight when not in use so the product doesn’t dry out. After application, wipe the brush clean between uses so excess product doesn’t dry making your brush bristles hard.
Liquid Eyeliner
Liquid is nice for its ability to glide easily on the eye and create a super sharp defined line for a winged, cat eye.
Helpful Tips:
The liquid formula can be a little messy, so wipe off the excess product and start in the centre and out to the end of the lash line, then lightly draw tip from the inner corner to middle area of the eye. This will ensure the line is thinner on the inner corner of the eye. Make sure your line is visible when your eyes are open by looking straight ahead in the mirror. Adjust the thickness of your liner accordingly and fill in any gaps.
