Beachy Curls: Tips from Our Master Stylist

One of the most requested hair style we get asked to create for our clients is the cool, casual beachy curl.

What makes this style so popular is that it looks effortless yet fabulous. Perfect for any occasion! There are many different products, tools and techniques used to achieve this, so we asked our master stylist Christina to break it down to help you master the beach wave in a few easy steps!

Here are her tips and tricks:

Step 1:

To start off I recommend to have day old hair as the curls will hold longer throughout the day.

Be sure to “double cleanse” the hair the night before by shampooing twice which helps remove product build up. Try to avoid putting conditioner on your roots as it can make your hair look greasy as if you didn’t wash it. It is best to condition your hair from mid length to ends.

*One of our favourites for hair that stays clean longer is Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Shampoo & Conditioner.

Before blow drying, I suggest to apply a small amount of Living Proof Prime Style Extender and comb through the hair.

Step 2:

The tool I suggest to use is a 1/4 inch curling iron. Start by parting the hair from the nape (the base of your neck) and take small 1 inch sections.

Wrap the hair around the wand away from the face. You can hold the bottom of the section rather than wrapping it completely around the wand to have a straighter end.

When releasing pull the hair down to create an elongated curl.

Step 3:

Once the curls are all done let your hair cool down. To create extra volume sprinkle texture powder on the root and gently backcomb.

A texture powder* is lightweight which adds the grip needed for that extra oompf!

*We like to use the Puff Me texture powder.

Step 4:

To finish the look use your fingers to break up the curls while spraying in some Living Proof Body Builder. This will add texture and hold giving the curls that beachy quality.

Enjoy trying this at home!!
