Happy Friday! This tutorial will show you how to create a subtle daytime smokey eye. Learning a daytime smokey is a must for every girl. The products I’ve picked for this tutorial are VERY easy to use and stay all day.
3 Tips to avoid when apply a daytime smokey eye:
1. Glitter, no need for daytime makeup to have glitter
2. Keep it conservative
3. Use softer tones, avoid black
Step 1: Foundation
Before starting your subtle daytime smokey eye create a smooth canvas for the face using foundation and concealer. My favourite are Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk if you want more coverage or Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer.
Step 2: Cream Eyeshadow
Use neutral eyeshadow colours, smokey eyes don’t have to be about dark colours only. Try using shades of browns, greys, golds or mauves. Apply Bobbi Brown cream shadow from the lash line to the crease. This is one of my favourite products and it literally stays all day without any creasing.
Step 3: Powder Eyeshadow
Apply a darker brown eye shadow in the crease to create contour and depth with your eye. It’s important to blending the eye shadow in the crease bringing the brush towards the outer corner of your eye, then down to the lash line
Helpful Tip – When blending in the crease to the lash line it’s similar to a “V” but sideways “<“
Step 4: Eyeliner
Liner will dictate how dramatic you want look. For a daytime look try using a pencil eyeliner and lightly line underneath the bottom lashes. This look will make your bottom lashes look thicker too.
Helpful Tip – only apply the eyeliner half way or close to 3/4 on the bottom lash line.
Step 5: Mascara
Use black mascara this will make your eyes stand out even more. Build up the volume with at least two-three layers and be sure to get closer to the root of the lashes which will create more length. My favourite drug store mascara is L’Oreal Voluminous.
Don’t forgot to apply mascara on the bottom lashes!
Step 6: Lips
Since the makeup focus is on the eyes use a soft shade of pink for the lipstick. To give just a bit of shine add neutral gloss over top.

hi i love this look!
But what color in the glo minerals lipstick did you use on your lips?
also is there a color by bobbi brown that is similar or that you recommend to go with this look?
for reference, i’m blonde with blue eyes and light skintone.
thank u
Hi Jessica,
Thanks for the feedback! The glo mineral lipstick shade is bella. A pretty colour from bobbi brown would be pale mauve.
Thanks,
Denise
