Stanley Park Pavilion Wedding

Happy Wedding Wednesday! We apologize for our short hiatus as we are in full swing of wedding season over here! This week we are featuring M&J’s stunning wedding at the Stanley Park Pavilion last fall.

This venue holds so much character to Vancouver and showcases some of the most elegant weddings which you will see below!

Can we talk about the Jimmy Choo white wedding shoes!  A very classic touch to Maya’s overall bridal look.

The Bridal Look:

My talented team members, Sarah and Sam had the pleasure of meeting Maya a few months prior for her consultation and were able to solidify the perfect bridal look. Maya requested an understated glam look with a sleek chiffon bun. My senior hair stylist Sam used all her best tricks to create this lasting hold in Maya’s thick long hair!

Complexion: The one step colour correcting primer from Stila was used to prep the skin. The always flawless Armani luminous silk foundation created the perfect medium coverage. Complexion was finished with the Glo minerals perfecting powder to control oil and shine.

Cheek & Lips: Rosebud blush from Glo minerals to warm up Maya’s cheeks and highlight her cheek bones. This complimented the raspberry pink lip colour colour 205 from Paul & Joe.

Eyes: Paul & Joe eyelid primer from the lash line to brow bone was applied. Next, Sarah used the Stila soul palette. The bronze shadow was used for the contour/crease area and to brighten the eyes a dust of the champagne tone was applied in the inner area. The matte dark brown shadow was blended on Maya’s bottom lash line to soften the look. Stila stay all day liquid liner created the perfect cat eye complimented with a full set of luxe lashes!

With a crisp black, white and gold colour scheme it was no surprise Aly Armstrong planned and executed decor to M&J’s every request! With Melia Lucida behind the lens every photo captures so much emotion and everlasting elegance.

Tuesday Tips with EVO Haircare

We wanted to introduce an amazing new hair care line EVO, to the Denise Elliott Beauty Co. product family! We’ve been using the line since we’ve opened and are thrilled to have the full line on our retail shelves!

Evo is from Australia with a full range of shampoos & conditioners, leave-in treatments and styling products. The clean and simple packaging speaks to the “no gimmick” philosophy behind the brand. With no parabens, sulphates, dea or tea you know your hair will love you back!

Our senior stylist and colourist Christina shares below her steps for creating the perfect “beach waves” on owner and principal artist, Denise.

STEP 1:

When doing a soft tossed curl on Denise I first started off with End Doctor. A perfect product for smoothing and protecting the ends. I then followed with Icon Welder. This product is used to protect the hair from heat , conditions, and locks in your preferred style! When spraying Icon welder in the hair you want to start from a distance making sure to get it evenly on mid-lengths to ends. Comb through and quickly blast the blow dryer to set the product into the hair.

STEP 2:

I continued with the 1/2 inch curling iron wrapping the hair around the iron holding out Denise’s ends. When doing this you want to try and avoid touching the curl too much while its hot. It’s always best to let the hair cool down before running your fingers through it.

STEP 3:

After curling I like to spray the Love Touch on mid lengths to ends, this product is by far my favorite! Not only does it smell delicious, it helps define the curls, reduces frizz, helps split ends and along with many more benefits.

STEP 4:

Once the hair is cooled down I like to run my hands through to brake up the curls and soften it for more a beach wave!
For a bit more body near the crown I section the hair horizontally and sprinkled the Haze dry styling powder on her roots. This creates a gritty texture. I then back combed this area to create a firm smooth hold and build volume.

STEP 5:

The final step to finish I used She bang-a-bang a dry wax spray gently pulled through the hair with my finger. This product has a gritty texture so the style will hold for days without getting sticky or crunchy!

Happy Tuesday!

Bridal Makeup Lesson

Ever considered doing your own bridal makeup?  Whether your having a local or destination wedding, you may feel more comfortable doing your own makeup.

With the right products, tools and a few tricks of the trade you will be set for success! Follow along our bridal makeup lesson for a fool proof bridal look!

We were lucky enough to host Cam Lee (bride-to-be) in our new store for her bridal makeup lesson! She brought in her current makeup products which we were able to use along with a few extra staples to achieve that camera ready look.

Step 1. Complexion

Prep your skin with a light-weight moisturizer. This is essential for a flawless makeup application. Next step, primer. This is one of the most important steps to do, especially on your wedding day! I would recommend using an oil-free primer. This helps minimize pores, smooth any fine lines and maximizes the staying power of the makeup.  Pick a foundation that is long wearing and oil free foundation that will give you a beautiful glow and last all day on the skin.

Recommended Products:

Stila One-Step-Correct Primer, Stila Stay All Day Foundation or Armani Luminous Silk Foundation

Step 2. Eyes

Make sure to use an eye primer! This will give your powder eye shadows something to adhere too so they stay put all day.  Once the eye area is prepped, you can add your powder shadows.  To add depth to the eyelid, take a medium tone eye shadow and start blending on the outer corner of the eye into the middle. Blending is key!  Next step is eyeliner.  Eyeliner should always be darker then the iris of your eye, this is key to make your eyes pop!  By lining your upper lash line, this will give shape to your eye and make your lashes appear thicker, and fuller.  And of course you’ll want to apply waterproof mascara for the big day.

Recommended Products:

Paul and Joe eye primer, Stila In the light Palette,

Step 3. Blush / Bronzer

Bronzer is best used on the high points of the face. Making a number “3” shape on each side of the face. Blending from the hairline, underneath the cheek bones and then down the jawline. Think of where the sun would naturally hit the skin.

Blush should be picked to match the colour that would come up if you naturally flush. Using light strokes, blend from the apples of the cheeks back to the hairline and down to the jaw.

Recommended Products:

Stila Bronzer & Stila convertible cream blush

Step 4.  Lips

I would recommend choosing a lip colour that is more on the natural side and a long-wear formula. You will always look back at these photos and it’s important to create a look that is timeless.

Recommended Products:

Stay all Day Stila Lipsticks

You don’t have to be getting married to need a makeup lesson, we love to host individuals or groups for a one on one tailored look! If you simply feel in a rut with your makeup routine or just want to learn a few more quick tricks then please don’t hesitate to let us teach you!

We made sure Cam left her lesson feeling pretty and confident, knowing that she could create this look again for her wedding day stress free! Be sure to check out the feature from Cam Lee’s makeup lesson experience on Real Weddings!

Harthouse Wedding

For Wedding Wednesday we are excited to feature this gorgeous Harthouse Wedding. With wedding season creeping up on us we are reminiscing T&G’s beautiful day amongst their family and friends!

Tareyn’s neutral colour palette was paired perfectly with hints of rustic aesthetics and autumnal colours. We simply can’t get enough of every heartfelt and genuine moment Bake Photography captured on this special day!

From the post ceremony lawn games to the stunning reception details, Nicole from Evoke Events ensured a magical day for T&G.

The weather was definitely on there side for the outdoor ceremony. All the guests gathered in the grassy field at Deer Lake Park to witness T&G seal the deal!

The Bridal Look:

My team member Charlene had the pleasure of meeting and beautifying Tareyn for her engagement shoot months prior to the big day. They solidified a polished yet elegant bridal look!

Complexion: One step illuminating primer from Stila was used to smooth out the skin, with Stila stay all day foundation on top for even coverage. A lightweight oil free powder from Laura Mercier ensured a long wear and even finish.

Cheek & Lips: After applying a light bronzer all over, Charlene used glo minerals rosy pink blush starting from the apples of the cheeks blended to the hairline. To compliment the blush she used glo minerals lip crayon in Chiffon.

Eyes: Charlene used the Paul & Joe eye primer from lash line to brow bone to ensure no creasing throughout the day. Next, creating a soft smokey eye Charlene used mauve tones in the Stila Soul palette. With a pronounced lash line, she used the bobbi brown black gel liner and a full set of luxe lashes. So stunning!

Refresh Your Spring Makeup Look

With the promise of warm weather and blue skies among us, it’s time to refresh your spring makeup look! We all need a closet clean out during this time of year and its also important to clear the clutter in your makeup bag.

Spring up your makeup look with these tips and tricks using some of our favourite products here at Denise Elliott Beauty Co!

TIP #1: COMPLEXION

Lets take off the heavy winter layers of foundation and lighten it up with a tinted primer! One of our go-to spring products is the Glo Minerals spf 30 tinted primer. This will not only even out the skin, it will also feel light and dewy.

No need for setting powder with this product, it’s formulated with polymers for sheer radiance and a long lasting wear!

If your in need of a little brightening around the under eyes our Stila aqua glow concealer has just the right amount of coverage to neutralize any deep tone to make you look refreshed.

TIP#2: ChEEKS & LIPS

I’m sure we are all feeling a little pale with the lack of Vitamin D over the last few months! Adding a little colour to your lips and cheeks will make a huge difference.

We are loving the Stila 2-in-1 convertible compact in peony. It’s a lightweight, creamy formula that will leave your skin with a dewy finish! Our go-to shade, a neutral soft rose/pink tone. If your looking to add a little highlight around the cheek bones we have just launched the new Spring Stila highlighter.

Our new Paul & Joe lip colours are both moisturizing and bold! This one is shade 202 a perfect pop of pink!

TIP #3: EYES

Next onto the eyes! The new Stila Matte and Metals palette has a mix of great shades, it’s seriously stunning. Whether you are wanting a light champagne colour or would like to create a smokey eye this palette is perfect. It has a variety of matte and shimmer colours with cool tones and warm tones you can mix and blend to create whatever look you desire.

To define the eye I blended the Stila smudge stick just lightly. It’s an amazing texture and glides on so smooth. Lastly,  Mascara. No matter what you do make sure you use Mascara as it makes a serious difference. Adding a few coats of the Stila HUGE mascara and you’re set!

**True beauty doesn’t come from knowing all the newest trends, it comes from the inner belief that you are naturally beautiful**

Happy Friday!

Oceanside Styled Shoot

This week for Wedding Wednesday we are sharing our Oceanside Styled Shoot, which was recently featured in Grey Like’s! We had the pleasure of teaming up with some very talented vendors for this collaboration (see below).

The overall feel for this shoot was raw, natural and minimalistic. Taffete Design created an amazing set up on the rocks using crisp cool tones, tying in with the beautiful ocean landscape.  Special Moments did a fabulous job with the lush florals and greenery, the bouquet completed the shoot perfectly.

Understated Wedding Inspiration

Understated wedding inspiration by the sea!

This week for Wedding Wednesday we are switching things up slightly and featuring a gorgeous styled shoot! This shoot was for one of Christie Graham’s Workshop’s and my team member Sarah had the pleasure being a part of this. With our stunning model Lotta, and Christie Graham behind the lens this was definitely a gorgeous collaboration!

Christie’s vision for this workshop was all about feeling raw and undone. Sarah translated this flawlessly.

Our city has so many beautiful backdrops, especially with this ocean setting!

Understated Wedding Inspiration

The abundance of warm florals by Celsia florist were paired beautifully with the groom’s suit and Lotta’s Rue de Seine lace gown from Union Bridal boutique.

The Bridal Look:

Sarah started with an illuminating primer to smooth out the complexion. Followed by a small amount of Armani foundation buffed into the skin for a lighter finish.

Using a light mauve eye shadow, Sarah blended on the lower lid and into the crease. She then used a champagne colour close to the lash line and in the inner corner of the eye. This kept Lotta’s eyes bright while adding a dark brown shadow on the lower and upper lash line.

Sarah completed the look with a soft pink cream blush blended from the apples of the cheeks back to the hair line and a neutral lip colour to create a flushed look.

Stila lip stains

Stila Lip Stains

Stila lip stains are the perfect product for a long lasting application. If you are looking for a new go-to lipstick that has amazing staying power, you will love this recommendation. With beautiful packaging and an easy to use concept, this product is fool proof!

No matter how many glasses of wine they touch over the weekend, your lips will be kept in full force. There are a wide range of shades to choose from which will complete any makeup look! A deep sultry burgundy, a sexy seductive red, or a soft romantic pink – they’ve got it all.

The application is easy!

Start with the sponge applicator and line your lips with the edge of the applicator. You will notice the product is VERY pigmented and you won’t need much. Blend the product around the lips evenly. Next, to sharpen the look shade the outer area with a similar shade lip liner. The best way to do this is to lightly feather the liner into the lips making it look like the lipstick.

If your lips are a little on the dry side, exfoliate with a sugar scrub and apply lip balm. At this time of year and with this cold spell we all need a little extra hydration!

With our new makeup and hair studio we are thrilled to be selling Stila’s full line here. Stop by our store at 129 Lonsdale to have one of our artists match the perfect lip colour for the weekend.

In case you missed our last makeup tutorial post, head on over to our quick and simple makeover which will help you create a Friday night makeup look in just a few minutes.

Happy Friday!

September Kelowna Wedding

I hope everyone had a lovely Valentine’s day! This Wedding Wednesday we are keeping the romance going with this stunning September Kelowna wedding at Bottega. It was a warm, yet rainy September day for C & B to say there I do’s!

As I scroll through these images I am reminded at how difficult it is to choose the best ones when Shari & Mike are behind the lens. The venue was transformed by the epic planning and execution of Corinne from Filosophi. You can really see how much detail was put into C&B’s big day. It was such a fun day getting all the ladies ready and the bridal party was so lovely to work with!

The grounds of Bottega are lush with greenery and embody some of BC’s natural beauty including a running alpaca farm! The addition of neutral yet lavish flowers by A New Leaf made for the most perfect ambiance.

My senior hair stylist Christina and I had the pleasure of meeting Cathryn months prior for their engagement shoot. Cathryn has the sweetest personality and one of the most contagious smiles, we instantly clicked! Cathryn was comfortable enough to leave the vision in our hands but requested to look elegant and timeless. Exactly what we like to hear. We were also lucky enough to beautify Cathryn and her mother for the rehearsal dinner the day before!

September Kelowna Wedding

The Bridal Look:

Complexion:  Stila one step correct primer to even out the skin tone with Stila stay all day foundation all over. Finishing with Laura Mercier translucent powder to set the foundation and ensure a long wear!

Cheek & Lip: Stila cream blush in camellia with Bobbi Brown bronze shimmer brick. This complimented lip crayon by Glo Minerals we used for her lips!

Eyes: Paul & Joe 02 eye shadow primer swept from lash line to brow bone for to hold eyeshadow all day. Next, I applied  Glo Minerals shadow stick in “keepsake” all over the lower lid blending into the crease. Stila kitten was applied in the inner corner to brighten her eyes. This year for Valentine’s give your look a loving statement with one of our featured makeup applications here at Denise Elliott BeautyCo! Whether its a night out with your significant other or a girls only adventure, keep it fresh with a touch of pink or red to enhance your natural beauty.

In this post we are featuring our 3 Valentine’s makeup looks using our favourite Glo Minerals lip crayons. Purchase any of these over the week of Valentine’s and receive a Glo mini lip gloss!

Valentine's Day Makeup Looks

Look #1 “The Vixen”

This look includes everything you need to feel date night ready and drop dead gorgeous! Since this look incorporates a sultry smokey eye, its best to start the look here as you may get some fall out causing a racoon effect, not so hot once your complexion is perfected!

Eye Primer: Start Paul and Joe Primer #2 over the eyelid sweeping up to the brow bone. This will ensure the pigment and smoothness of all shadows.

Eye Shadow: Apply Stila Spirit Palette on the lower lid and into the crease to create depth.

Eyeliner: Using Black Amethyst Stila smudge stick, glide all along the lash line applying more product on the outer corners. Take a small blending brush and start shading the liner to create the smokey effect. Using the excess product on the brush glide along the bottom lash line. Finish off the eyes with a set of mink lashes or, build with volumizing mascara for a more natural look.

Complexion: Apply a primer all over first to have the foundation hold and look smooth. I used the Paul & Joe Primer and new Stila Aqua Glow foundation. Make sure to use an under eye concealer that matches the skin colour at your brow bone for a more natural highlight and to really make those smokey eyes pop!

Lips & Cheeks: To complete this look I used a soft pink blush (Paul & Joe #4) with my goto nude lip crayon in Chiffon from Glo Minerals.

Valentine's Day Makeup Looks

Look #2 “The Sweetheart”

Don’t underestimate how good a bright lip can make you look and feel! For this look, the focus will definitely be at the lash line and the lips!

Eyes: Use the same eye coloured primer as mentioned above. Then, apply the Stila Soul palette shadow all across the lower lid blending into the crease. Finish the eyes with a bold black waterproof liner, gliding this all along the lash line extending slightly on the outer corners.

Complexion: Using the same as mentioned above!

Blush & Lips:  Using Stila charming blush lightly sweeping at the apples of the cheeks back to the hairline. Last, using my favourite lip crayon from Glo Minerals in Bloom giving that beautiful raspberry pink colour to the lips!

Look #3 “The Bombshell”

If this look doesn’t scream sexy, i’m not sure what would! You’ll want your lips to be extra soft and plump for this look. With this dry cold spell here in Vancouver its crucial to give those lips a little TLC. Use an exfoliator to buff off dead skin and apply a hydrating lip mask immediately after for ultimate hydration.

Eyes: After applying the Paul and Joe eyelid primer, blend keepsake cream shadow stick from Glo Minerals on the lower lid and blend into the crease. Using the stay all day Stila liquid liner, glide from inner corner to outer corner of the eye extending for a “winged” effect. Stipple on more product along the outer edge to help create an elongated and lifted look to the eyes.

Complexion: Whether you prefer a glow to your skin or a matte finish, use the fitting primer all over. I used the Stila Aqua Glow foundation and set with a Glo Mineral Luxe Powder. Finish with under eye concealer and set with the same powder.

Blush & Lips: Apply a rosy pink blush on the apples of the cheek all the way back to the hairline. I’m still loving the Peony convertible cheek from Stila! Now that the lips are smooth and plump, glide the bold red glo minerals lip crayon making sure to frame every edge.
