This week for Wedding Wednesday we are featuring M&S’s big day at Brockhouse! With the weather on their side, these two said there I do’s in a garden setting amongst family and friends.
Everything about this day planned by Filosophi portrayed the most authentic vibe to what the west coast really has to offer. Pacific ocean views, an abundance of greenery, and a historic venue!
Thanks to the amazing Christie Graham for capturing Maddie’s flower girl getting a touch of gloss for the big day!
The Bridal Look:
I have had the pleasure of beautifying Maddie for numerous occasions, by the time her big day rolled around we had solidified the perfect bridal look.
Complexion: For a light and even complexion, I blended Stila one step correct primer with Armani luminous foundation. I then used the glo minerals perfecting powder to set and ensure a longwear.
Cheeks & Lips: I blended Stila bronzer over the cheek bones, forehead and jaw line. I applied a soft pink Paul & Joe blush to the apples of the cheeks and finished with the glo minerals lip crayon in Chiffon.
Eyes: I first applied the Paul & Joe primer from lash line to brow bone. Then using a blending shadow brush i used a soft grey tone from the Stila Soul palette over the lower lid and into the outer corners. We finished with the Bobbi Brown black gel liner and set of natural lashes.
These crisp white bouquets by Flower Factory filled with peonies and greens compliment the cool grey bridesmaid gowns perfectly!
Cheeks & Lips: With Stila bronzer in shade “light” as a soft contour, Emily swept the Paul & Joe blush in shade “02” from the apples of the cheeks back to the hair line. To compliment the cheeks she chose the glo minerals lip crayon in shade “chiffon”.
Eyes: Arezou requested a lash line focus with a bright lid. Emily used Paul and Joe eye primer to brighten and create shadow from creasing on the eyelid. Next, she applied a taupe shade from the Stila “soul” palette to create depth on the lid. For a bold lash line Emily finished with the Bobbi Brown black gel liner and a full set of lashes!
Arezou chose a classic all white bridal bouquet. These crisp white roses arranged by Vancouver Florist complimented her look perfectly!
Can we talk about this Reception set up? Melissa from Bake Photography really captured the romantic vibe with this lush garden dinner setting!
It’s Wedding Wednesday! This week we are featuring our very own senior artist & studio manager, Emily’s wedding last fall.
Emily & I have been working together for 8 years now and it was nothing short of a dream to be apart of her big day! The team Emily and Zarko hired for their wedding day were some of the best in the biz. With planning by Filosophi, photography captured by Shari & Mike and decor by Melissa at Cahoots it was pure magic!
The Bridal Look:
With both myself and my team members beautifying the bridal party, Emily took her bridal look into her own hands. It gave her a bit of alone time to take in all the excitement! Her inspiration for the look was a bold smokey eye with a soft peachy pink cheek and lip.
Complexion: Emily started with an illuminating primer and her fav Armani foundation for even luminous coverage. She then set the foundation with a Bobbi Brown oil free setting powder for long wear.
Cheeks & Lips: For a bronzed complexion, Emily used the Stila bronzer and sweet shimmer blush from Glo Minerals. She finished with a dusting of bronze shimmer brick.
Eyes: With the Paul & Joe eye primer as her base, Emily blended taupe shadow on her lower lid and into the crease. Next, she added a beige/champange shadowat the inner corner of the eye. Emily has always loved a bold liner, she created a soft wing using the black gel liner. Then, softly smudged the liner in the outer corner using a dark brown shadow. For the final touch she added a set of luxe mink lashes!
After numerous weddings of all different cultures it was very unique and special to witness a traditional Serbian Orthodox ceremony. Can we talk about these crowns?
With a neutral colour palette and a pop of Burgundy in the bouquets by the Flower Collective, this added a fall vibe to the decor!
It’s Wedding Wednesday! This week we are featuring my cousin’s stunning wedding at Van Dusen Garden last July, which was just featured on Real Weddings yesterday! With the number of weddings under our belts it’s always so special when we get to work with people close to our hearts.
It was a crisp and clear summer day at Van Dusen for Elise and Austin. With an outdoor ceremony in the beautiful gardens and an intimate reception onsite planned by Lavista Events, E&A enjoyed every moment with their family and friends.
Elise and her ladies were paired in the perfect hues of blue to compliment this floral abundant venue! Taryn Baxter out did herself in capturing every special moment.
The Bridal Look:
I was lucky enough to beautify Elise alongside my coworker and Elise’s dear friend Sarah who was also a bridesmaid! We had my team member and senior hair stylist, Jane, create all the gorgeous hair styles!
Complexion: Starting with primer, I used the Stila one step correct primer. Next, I used one of my favs (Armani) luminous silk foundation to achieve a medium coverage and flawless finish. Setting the liquid foundation I added the perfecting powder from Glo minerals to ensure a long wear hold for the sunny summer day.
Cheek & Lips: For bronzer I used the Stila light, blending as the shape of a number “3” to create a light contour. Next, I blended Glo Minerals blush in “sweet” from cheek bones to hairline. Paul & Joe highlighter was a must on top of her cheek bones for a soft glow. I finished with Glo Minerals lip crayon in shade “heirloom” to compliment Elise’s natural lip tone.
Eyes: I applied Paul & Joe eye colour primer on Elise’s lid to brighten hold the shadow. Next, I used mauve tone shadows (Stila Soul palette). A black gel liner from Bobbi Brown was important to create a bold lash line along with a set of my favourite mink lashes!
How stunning to bring a bit of outdoor rustic vibe into their reception with a head table garland and greens in the draping!
Happy Wedding Wednesday! We apologize for our short hiatus as we are in full swing of wedding season over here! This week we are featuring M&J’s stunning wedding at the Stanley Park Pavilion last fall.
This venue holds so much character to Vancouver and showcases some of the most elegant weddings which you will see below!
Can we talk about the Jimmy Choo white wedding shoes! A very classic touch to Maya’s overall bridal look.
The Bridal Look:
My talented team members, Sarah and Sam had the pleasure of meeting Maya a few months prior for her consultation and were able to solidify the perfect bridal look. Maya requested an understated glam look with a sleek chiffon bun. My senior hair stylist Sam used all her best tricks to create this lasting hold in Maya’s thick long hair!
Complexion: The one step colour correcting primer from Stila was used to prep the skin. The always flawless Armani luminous silkfoundation created the perfect medium coverage. Complexion was finished with the Glo minerals perfecting powder to control oil and shine.
Cheek & Lips: Rosebud blush from Glo minerals to warm up Maya’s cheeks and highlight her cheek bones. This complimented the raspberry pink lip colour colour 205 from Paul & Joe.
Eyes: Paul & Joe eyelid primer from the lash line to brow bone was applied. Next, Sarah used the Stila soul palette. The bronze shadow was used for the contour/crease area and to brighten the eyes a dust of the champagne tone was applied in the inner area. The matte dark brown shadow was blended on Maya’s bottom lash line to soften the look. Stila stay all day liquid liner created the perfect cat eye complimented with a full set of luxe lashes!
With a crisp black, white and gold colour scheme it was no surprise Aly Armstrong planned and executed decor to M&J’s every request! With Melia Lucida behind the lens every photo captures so much emotion and everlasting elegance.
We wanted to introduce an amazing new hair care line EVO, to the Denise Elliott Beauty Co. product family! We’ve been using the line since we’ve opened and are thrilled to have the full line on our retail shelves!
Evo is from Australia with a full range of shampoos & conditioners, leave-in treatments and styling products. The clean and simple packaging speaks to the “no gimmick” philosophy behind the brand. With no parabens, sulphates, dea or tea you know your hair will love you back!
Our senior stylist and colourist Christina shares below her steps for creating the perfect “beach waves” on owner and principal artist, Denise.
When doing a soft tossed curl on Denise I first started off with End Doctor. A perfect product for smoothing and protecting the ends. I then followed with Icon Welder. This product is used to protect the hair from heat , conditions, and locks in your preferred style! When spraying Icon welder in the hair you want to start from a distance making sure to get it evenly on mid-lengths to ends. Comb through and quickly blast the blow dryer to set the product into the hair.
I continued with the 1/2 inch curling iron wrapping the hair around the iron holding out Denise’s ends. When doing this you want to try and avoid touching the curl too much while its hot. It’s always best to let the hair cool down before running your fingers through it.
After curling I like to spray the Love Touch on mid lengths to ends, this product is by far my favorite! Not only does it smell delicious, it helps define the curls, reduces frizz, helps split ends and along with many more benefits.
Once the hair is cooled down I like to run my hands through to brake up the curls and soften it for more a beach wave!
For a bit more body near the crown I section the hair horizontally and sprinkled the Haze dry styling powder on her roots. This creates a gritty texture. I then back combed this area to create a firm smooth hold and build volume.
The final step to finish I used She bang-a-bang a dry wax spray gently pulled through the hair with my finger. This product has a gritty texture so the style will hold for days without getting sticky or crunchy!
Ever considered doing your own bridal makeup? Whether your having a local or destination wedding, you may feel more comfortable doing your own makeup.
With the right products, tools and a few tricks of the trade you will be set for success! Follow along our bridal makeup lesson for a fool proof bridal look!
We were lucky enough to host Cam Lee (bride-to-be) in our new store for her bridal makeup lesson! She brought in her current makeup products which we were able to use along with a few extra staples to achieve that camera ready look.
Step 1. Complexion
Prep your skin with a light-weight moisturizer. This is essential for a flawless makeup application. Next step, primer. This is one of the most important steps to do, especially on your wedding day! I would recommend using an oil-free primer. This helps minimize pores, smooth any fine lines and maximizes the staying power of the makeup. Pick a foundation that is long wearing and oil free foundation that will give you a beautiful glow and last all day on the skin.
Stila One-Step-Correct Primer, Stila Stay All Day Foundation or Armani Luminous Silk Foundation
Step 2. Eyes
Make sure to use an eye primer! This will give your powder eye shadows something to adhere too so they stay put all day. Once the eye area is prepped, you can add your powder shadows. To add depth to the eyelid, take a medium tone eye shadow and start blending on the outer corner of the eye into the middle. Blending is key! Next step is eyeliner. Eyeliner should always be darker then the iris of your eye, this is key to make your eyes pop! By lining your upper lash line, this will give shape to your eye and make your lashes appear thicker, and fuller. And of course you’ll want to apply waterproof mascara for the big day.
Paul and Joe eye primer, Stila In the light Palette,
Step 3. Blush / Bronzer
Bronzer is best used on the high points of the face. Making a number “3” shape on each side of the face. Blending from the hairline, underneath the cheek bones and then down the jawline. Think of where the sun would naturally hit the skin.
Blush should be picked to match the colour that would come up if you naturally flush. Using light strokes, blend from the apples of the cheeks back to the hairline and down to the jaw.
Stila Bronzer & Stila convertible cream blush
Step 4. Lips
I would recommend choosing a lip colour that is more on the natural side and a long-wear formula. You will always look back at these photos and it’s important to create a look that is timeless.

Tareyn’s neutral colour palette was paired perfectly with hints of rustic aesthetics and autumnal colours. We simply can’t get enough of every heartfelt and genuine moment Bake Photography captured on this special day!
From the post ceremony lawn games to the stunning reception details, Nicole from Evoke Events ensured a magical day for T&G.
The weather was definitely on there side for the outdoor ceremony. All the guests gathered in the grassy field at Deer Lake Park to witness T&G seal the deal!
The Bridal Look:
My team member Charlene had the pleasure of meeting and beautifying Tareyn for her engagement shoot months prior to the big day. They solidified a polished yet elegant bridal look!
Complexion: One step illuminating primer from Stila was used to smooth out the skin, with Stila stay all day foundation on top for even coverage. A lightweight oil free powder from Laura Mercier ensured a long wear and even finish.
Cheek & Lips: After applying a light bronzer all over, Charlene used glo minerals rosy pink blush starting from the apples of the cheeks blended to the hairline. To compliment the blush she used glo minerals lip crayon in Chiffon.
Eyes: Charlene used the Paul & Joe eye primer from lash line to brow bone to ensure no creasing throughout the day. Next, creating a soft smokey eye Charlene used mauve tones in the Stila Soul palette. With a pronounced lash line, she used the bobbi brown black gel liner and a full set of luxe lashes. So stunning!
With the promise of warm weather and blue skies among us, it’s time to refresh your spring makeup look! We all need a closet clean out during this time of year and its also important to clear the clutter in your makeup bag.
Spring up your makeup look with these tips and tricks using some of our favourite products here at Denise Elliott Beauty Co!
TIP #1: COMPLEXION
Lets take off the heavy winter layers of foundation and lighten it up with a tinted primer! One of our go-to spring products is the Glo Minerals spf 30 tinted primer. This will not only even out the skin, it will also feel light and dewy.
No need for setting powder with this product, it’s formulated with polymers for sheer radiance and a long lasting wear!
If your in need of a little brightening around the under eyes our Stila aqua glow concealer has just the right amount of coverage to neutralize any deep tone to make you look refreshed.
TIP#2: ChEEKS & LIPS
I’m sure we are all feeling a little pale with the lack of Vitamin D over the last few months! Adding a little colour to your lips and cheeks will make a huge difference.
We are loving the Stila 2-in-1 convertible compact in peony. It’s a lightweight, creamy formula that will leave your skin with a dewy finish! Our go-to shade, a neutral soft rose/pink tone. If your looking to add a little highlight around the cheek bones we have just launched the new Spring Stila highlighter.
Our new Paul & Joe lip colours are both moisturizing and bold! This one is shade 202 a perfect pop of pink!
TIP #3: EYES
Next onto the eyes! The new Stila Matte and Metals palette has a mix of great shades, it’s seriously stunning. Whether you are wanting a light champagne colour or would like to create a smokey eye this palette is perfect. It has a variety of matte and shimmer colours with cool tones and warm tones you can mix and blend to create whatever look you desire.
To define the eye I blended the Stila smudge stick just lightly. It’s an amazing texture and glides on so smooth. Lastly, Mascara. No matter what you do make sure you use Mascara as it makes a serious difference. Adding a few coats of the Stila HUGE mascara and you’re set!
**True beauty doesn’t come from knowing all the newest trends, it comes from the inner belief that you are naturally beautiful**
This week for Wedding Wednesday we are sharing our Oceanside Styled Shoot, which was recently featured in Grey Like’s! We had the pleasure of teaming up with some very talented vendors for this collaboration (see below).
The overall feel for this shoot was raw, natural and minimalistic. Taffete Design created an amazing set up on the rocks using crisp cool tones, tying in with the beautiful ocean landscape. Special Moments did a fabulous job with the lush florals and greenery, the bouquet completed the shoot perfectly.
Camilla Anchisi Photography captured so much emotion and true beauty through every aspect of this shoot. We just love the texture amongst every detail!
The chiffon skirt with a lace overlay top (from Union Bridal) looked stunning on Kristina. It fit her perfectly.
The Bridal Look:
The minimalist look we chose was perfect with the ocean side breeze and soft light. Both myself and my right hand girl Emily, styled the hair and makeup! For Kristina’s hair we added a single long braid to enhance texture and a more bohemian vibe to the overall look! Here is the beauty breakdown:
Primer: Stila one step illuminating primer. Foundation: Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer (the perfect light-weight coverage. We avoided a setting powder for this look as Kristina had the perfect glow to her skin!

Primer: Paul & Joe (even out the skin tone on the eye lids). Shadow: Stila“Spirit” Palette. Lashes: Stila’s extreme lash mascara.
